  • Awareness of Carbon Monoxide Dangers

    It is now the time of year that we begin for turn on the heaters and fireplaces.  Please be aware that any home heating appliance or equipment that produces a flame, produces Carbon Monoxide.  Carbon Monoxide, or “CO”, is a colorless, odorless gas that can result in medical emergencies and death.  The best prevention to CO emegencies, is to have a working CO alarm installed outside each sleeping area and on each level of the home.

    Know the symptoms of CO poisoning

    The initial symptoms of low to moderate CO poisoning are similar to the flu (but without the fever). They include:

    • Headache
    • Fatigue
    • Shortness of breath
    • Nausea
    • Dizziness

    High level CO poisoning results in progressively more severe symptoms, including:

    • Mental confusion
    • Vomiting
    • Loss of muscular coordination
    • Loss of consciousness
    • Ultimately death
